WASHINGTON, D.C. (IANS)- Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be stepping down from her role in August 2025 to rejoin Harvard University, the IMF announced.

Gita Gopinath, the International Monetary Fund’s No. 2 official, is stepping down at the end of August, giving President Donald Trump an opportunity to name her replacement and put his stamp on the global crisis lender.

Gita Gopinath, the No. 2 official at the International Monetary Fund, will leave her post at the end of August to return to Harvard University, the IMF said in a statement on Monday.
