The NFL record streak without allowing a pass touchdown, since the 1970 merger, is seven games. The Vikings can tie that record on Thursday against the Lions, but they'll have to snap Jared Goff's 21-game streak with a touchdown pass in order to do so.
If that was the last play of McCarthy's season, the strip sack marked a fitting coda to a debut campaign that's been marred by poor play and injuries.
Detroit Lions next game will be on Christmas Day vs Minnesota Vikings, one of 3 NFL games on Christmas. Here's start time, TV channel and streaming.
Vikings center Ryan Kelly was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Giants with a concussion. That's always concerning for any player, but particularly so with Kelly. This is now his third concussion of the 2025 season and the sixth documented one of his NFL career.
The Vikings (7-8) shut down rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and the Giants (2-13). New York finished with a meager 141 yards of offense, by far its lowest total of the season. Minnesota sacked Dart five times and intercepted him once, as the 22-year-old finished with just 33 yards on 7-of-13 passing.
Will the Giants and Vikings Be In the Quarterback Market This Offseason?
As for the final result, which feels somewhat less significant, the Vikings held on for their third consecutive win over an NFC East opponent and won 16-13 over the Giants at MetLife Stadium. They're now 7-8, with the Giants falling to 2-13 on the season.
Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is injured again. McCarthy suffered a hand injury when he was strip-sacked by Giants pass rusher Brian Burns just before halftime and was ruled out for the rest of the game at the start of the second half.
