Workers at Canada’s national postal service are on strike after failing to reach a negotiated agreement with Canada Post

Canadians may face delays in getting their holiday gifts and purchases this year after workers at the national postal service went on strike.

The union walked out after talks with the country’s main mail operator failed. The stoppage could disrupt deliveries before the holidays.

About 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike Friday after their union said it had failed to reach a pay deal with the postal operator in the run-up to the holiday season.

Canada Post has said their operations will shut down during and customers should expect delays during the national strike. Canada Post has confirmed that mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered for the duration of the strike, some post offices will be closed and new items will not be accepted.
