Saying owners have a “curiosity” about the notion, Commissioner Adam Silver said this week that the league will now study the issue more formally as part of an in-depth analysis, which would be the first official move in a long process toward adding franchises.
With the Trail Blazers up for sale and Seattle stymied again by the NBA’s methodical approach to expansion, speculation is gaining in the Pacific Northwest that a Portland outsider --perhaps former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos --could purchase the team and relocate them 175 miles north to be the Supersonics.
One of the surprises at the 2025 NBA draft was the Portland Trail Blazers selecting Chinese Yang Hansen at No. 16 overall, a player many considered a fringe first-round prospect at best.
