As residents and businesspeople in Ruidoso assess the damage caused by heavy and dangerous flooding, others can find ways to help. Here is what to know.

Broken tree limbs, twisted metal, crumpled cars and muddy debris remained as crews worked to clear roads and culverts in the wake of Tuesday's flash flood that killed three people — including two children — and significantly damaged as many as 50 homes, with one home carried away entirely.

The two children were identified as Charlotte Trotter, 4, and Sebastian Trotter, 7, according to their aunt Tiffanie Wyatt. She said their father, Sebastian Trotter, a solder based at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and their mother, Stephanie, both suffered serious injuries but survived and were receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Texas.

Ruidoso officials announced in a Thursday morning news conference that they fear more rain on Saturday may bring flooding to the area again. "The threat of rain is imminent," Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford said.

It marks the second straight year that the All American races have been moved from their home at Ruidoso Downs. The race track and property suffered significant damage from the flooding event that occurred on Tuesday, July 8th which has made the current racing season impossible to continue.

People across Ruidoso whose jobs have been affected by the floods are urged to apply for standard unemployment benefits. The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) is supervising the operation.
